The famous Unc0ver jailbreak team managed to detect a previously unknown vulnerability in the iOS kernel, exploit it and create a working jailbreak. The tool is suitable for hacking most (if not all) versions of iOS, starting with the 11th and higher, including the new version 13.5.
Last weekend, the Unc0ver team, without any details, simply announced on Twitter that its jailbreak version 5.0.0 was ready. Immediately after the publication of the tweet, the Unc0ver website went offline, unable to cope with the number of visitors who wanted to download the jailbreak.
Typically, Apple responds quickly to jailbreaks and immediately closes the vulnerabilities they use. However, according to the Wired publication, this time, Unc0ver hackers did not inform the company in advance of the vulnerabilities they discovered, so it would take 2-3 weeks to prepare the patch. Thus, Unc0ver 5.0.0 is the first jailbreak in several years available over more than a few days.
The tool can be downloaded from AltStore or Cydia repositories. According to the developers, it does not consume battery power and does not interfere with Apple services, including iCloud, Apple Pay and iMessage. Moreover, hackers from Unc0ver claim that they took care of users’ security and did not “undermine” the iOS sandbox, which ensures separate operation of applications and blocks their access to inappropriate data.
“Jailbreak basically just adds exceptions to existing rules. It only allows you to read new jailbreak files and parts of the file system that do not contain user data, ”said Unc0ver lead developer, known as Pwn20wnd.
